Unified School District No. 232 announced on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the appointment of Ms. Abby Huggins as the next principal of Lexington Trails Middle School. Huggins currently serves as associate principal at De Soto High School.

This administrative transfer, effective July 1, follows a thorough selection process and reflects the district's confidence in her experience and skills to lead Lexington Trails. The school district will launch an immediate search to fill the associate principal position at De Soto High School.

"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to become part of the team and school community at LTMS,” Huggins shared. “It is an honor to come alongside the staff and families in supporting our students and their future success."

Huggins steps into the role currently held by Mr. Clark McCracken, who is moving to a district leadership position as director of school administration to support all principals across the district.

Huggins has served in leadership roles within the district since 2012, including as building coordinator, coordinator of special services, and associate principal at DHS. Her 25 years in public education also include time in the Blue Valley School District as a speech-language pathologist and student services consultant. A resident of De Soto, she has children who attended school in the district and graduated from DHS.

Huggins earned a bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders from Kansas State University, master’s degrees in speech-language pathology and special education (emphasis in autism) from the University of Kansas, and a master's in educational leadership from Baker University.
